Scott County Honors Local Vietnam War Veterans with Museum Exhibit

GEORGETOWN, KY – MAY 2, 2018 – The Georgetown and Scott County Museum will soon feature a new but historic exhibit remembering Scott County residents who served their country in the Vietnam War.
Highlighting veterans of the Georgetown and Scott County area, the “Scott County & The Vietnam War” exhibit will include period pieces from the 1964 to 1975 Vietnam War. Photos, uniforms, flags, accolades, and other donated memorabilia will be on display for visitors to view at the museum from May 19 to Sept. 29.
“It is our mission as a local museum to highlight the many honorable men and women of Scott County,” said Ruthie Stevens, director of The Georgetown and Scott County Museum. “This particular museum feature touches home for me too as both my husband and cousin are veterans of the Vietnam War.”
The “Scott County & The Vietnam War” exhibit will begin with an opening ceremony at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19 at Scott County’s Elkhorn Crossing School. The Georgetown and Scott County Museum invites all veterans and their family and friends to the premier as the public recognizes and honors the many local veterans who courageously fought in the war. This free event will include a 30-minute documentary by student Anna Kate Hawkins called “The Vietnam War Through the Eyes of Scott County”, musical performances by the Scott County High School Chorus and Vietnam War veteran, Wayne Roberts, as well as light refreshments. A special exhibit viewing will take place immediately following the ceremony at the Georgetown & Scott County Museum.
“I am most excited about the interaction between the students of Scott County High School and Elkhorn Crossing School and the Vietnam vets,” said Chip Southworth, chairman of The Georgetown and Scott County Museum Committee and initiator of the Vietnam exhibit, when speaking about the exhibit’s opening ceremony. “It has been a wonderful opportunity to bridge a generational gap between these two groups.”
Plan your visit to see the “Scott County & The Vietnam War” exhibit this summer at the Georgetown & Scott County Museum in downtown Georgetown. The museum is free and open to the public Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
