GEORGETOWN, KY – AUGUST 13, 2018 – Horse lovers will want to head to downtown Georgetown this fall when the 38th Annual Festival of the Horse gallops into Kentucky Horse Country the weekend of September 7-9. A free-admission event celebrating the role of the horse and its heritage, the festival is packed with fun, including the Grand Parade of Horses, Horse Show & Games, live entertainment, craft beer garden, arts and crafts, tasty food options and family-fun activities like Fox Creek Amusement rides and so much more.
New and improved festival fun
The annual Toyota Grand Horse Parade begins in downtown at 5 p.m. Saturday. This year’s enhanced parade includes horses of all kinds with riders, drill teams, horse-drawn vehicles and more. New to the festival are pony rides for children by Brown’s Pony Parties, taking place outside the courthouse 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Additionally, a Corntucky Cornhole Tournament is scheduled to take place at FatKats Pizzeria on Saturday afternoon.
Throughout the weekend, enjoy a wide variety of live music at the square – everything from classic oldies to contemporary hits – performed by local musicians, including award-winning country duo Jericho Woods on Friday and the crowd-pleasing new band, Brother Smith, on Saturday.

Friday: 4-10 p.m., featuring the Colt & Filly Children’s Parade at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday: 11 a.m.-10 p.m., featuring the Corntucky Cornhole Tournament that afternoon and the Grand Parade of Horses at 5 p.m.

Celebrate the horse at the festival and at these equine-related attractions in Georgetown: Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, where you can meet Kentucky Derby Winner Silver Charm and Silver Screen sensation Popcorn Deelites, the other star of the 2003 Oscar-nominated sports drama “Seabiscuit,” among other legends of the turf; Kentucky Horse Park and its many museums paying homage to the horse; Fine Arts Editions Gallery, showcasing the work of John Stephen Hockensmith, one of the premier equine photographers in the United States; and the Robert Clark Gallery, featuring this elite equestrian artist’s paintings.
Additionally, a Stills and Stallions Horse Tour with Stone Fences Tours is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, that will include behind-the-scenes peeks at Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, award-winning Country Boy Brewing and Georgetown’s craft bourbon distillery, Bourbon 30. The tour includes a lunch stop and pickup/drop-off at the Georgetown/Scott County Tourism office so you can get right back to festival fun. Tickets: $99 (includes tour, admission to Old Friends, tasting at Country Boy Brewing and lunch.) A barrel tasting and bottling at Bourbon Thirty is optional.
